YOu know how I said earlier that Florence is like downtown LA but with more sparkle? Ya, well Rome is like downtown LA with I bit more craziness and Florence is to Rome like what Pasadena is to LA. It's very busy here. You need to be careful every time you crops the street and just wait for an opening to cross. The cars and motorcycles will always stop for you just as long as the SEE YOU. There are sooooo many people here. Tourists, locals, you name it and there is everywhere. On just simply walking around, Sean and I would take on Florence before Rome any day, but the sights here is Rome are amazing, and so is the food.
Yesterday, when we got into Rome I was super paranoid about pickpockets or getting mugged or whatever just because of all the reading I was doing freaked me out. We were totally fine, but in our ride to get into Rome we sat across from this Italian guy who was very nice and talking to us about where we were from and where in Italy he was from, etch and then all of sudden he starts yelling at these teenagers in Italian about how rude and offensive they are being toward everyone on the train! THey went back and forth for a little while with the one teenager saying go @*%& yourself to the guy we were talking to. While he was getting so angry, Sean was enjoying the entertainment, and I was enjoying the fact that I understood what they were saying! And then as we were trying to figure out how to buy bus tickets two women got into a fight with a monk! Seriously??!!! Rome is awesome in that way. People just express themselves as they see fit and don't bottle it up. I wish I was more like that.
After that the day was not so exciting. Steph and Kev, your were right, Giovanni is so nice. The bed and breakfast we are staying at is unlike anything else that we have stayed in so far. Breakfast is make and serve yourself, the toilette and shower are shared. THe entire bed and breakfast is more like an 4 bedroom apartment with a hall and a kitchen and bathroom. Its very nice to have everything so laid back and casual. THe other people staying in the rooms are these two older French couples who are so sweet. One of them knows English fairly well so he communicates to us for everyone else. Together Sean and I probably know only about 10 (if that ) phrases in French so its been interesting.
Last night we had dinner at this really popular pizzeria where they serve Pinsa rather then Pizza. I guess it has something to do with how they make the dough and the other ingredients they use. Its pretty different from the pizza that we have at home though. There is no sauce, unless the pinsa that you ordered specifically states that, but even then its not a lot of sauce, and the rest of the ingredients that are on top are proportioned enough so you can actually taste all the toppings. All in all it was VERY good, so good that we made reservations to go back Friday night.
Today we went through the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. I had bought reservations ahead of time so were were able to get right in (which we were so happy about because even at 8:30 am the line was so long and we were able to skip it) The museum was beautiful as was the Sistine Chapel. (It was my personal favorite) Its much bigger then I thought it would be. And the basilica! Oh my goodness it is so ornate with gold and marble statues EVERYWHERE. It really is beautiful. We also walked into the crypt where all the past popes are laying to rest. It was the one part where Sean said he had never seen before so I was happy that he could experience it for the first time together. Unfortunately, Sean's allergies have kicked in from the moment we got into Rome. He has been the best trooper for me and I love him for it, but I am happy that know he is talking a nap and getting some much needed rest. Tonight we plan on checking out the area called Trastevere which has more of a night scene. Tomorrow will be the Coliseum and the Pantheon. After that we are done with major sight seeing for the rest of our trip. Thankfully too. My brain has is almost at capacity. Till then, ciao!

Stephanie Glad you like the B&B. Hopefully you had an easier time than we did finding it. Sounds like you are enjoying Rome so far, can't wait to read more!
