Wednesday we took the bus to Woodbury Common Outlets, drove across the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey, the on into Upstate New York, the weather here was warm and sunny, just had to buy a Ralph Lauren Tshirt..lol, Rob got to replenish his wardrobe after I threw all of his clothes out a few months ago.
Had dinner at a local Italian restaurant that served salad with the chicken parmigiana , unusual here as they normally serve it with pasta...strange.
Decided to venture to Brooklyn today on the train, met a nice Russian metro worker who could not see the difference between us being Australian or English, all the same he thinks, but he was helpful and off we went to add some money to our metro card. At the machine another helpful guy showed us how to add money and told us we needed $20 to get to Coney Island, we we then off.
We got to travel across the Williamsburg Bridge on the train which was so different, cars above us, cars beside us and a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Coney Island is very run down and surrounded by project housing, not so clean and nice, but we had lunch at the boardwalk overlooking the beach.
Back at the train station we discovered why the nice guy at 34th street was sooo helpful, he very kindly swapped our $20 card with his useless one, what a scammer, another $5 later and we were on the train...still laughing.
Went shopping at Barclay Centre Brroklyn, found an amazing store that sells designer everything at ridiculous prices, then back on the train, but had to work our way thru the 30 or so cops at the station, we then figured out we really were not in such a nice area, also a rob got through the turnstiles and I got stuck on other side as card wouldn't work again, they let me thru gate but only on other side of station to where Rob was waiting, took me ages to find where he was at, hopped on the train and hightailed it out of there.
Glad to have experienced such a different side of New York but soo glad to be back in Manhatten...and holding on tight to our metro card...lol.
