Our journey in Vietnam begins. We had a long coach journey of 5 hours from Sihanoukville in Cambodia, across the Vietnamese border to the town of Chau Doc, Saigon. We stayed here for one night just to relax before heading to Ho Chi Minh city the next morning. In Chau Doc we went on a boat trip to see the Fish Farms and a local village along the river. We also went through the market and tried a few of the local foods, not dog! Later in the afternoon a few of the guys on our tour including Scott went on the back of motorbikes up to the top of Sam Mountain to watch the sunset with a beer.
The next morning we had a 7 hour journey to Ho Chi Minh city, we had a private bus and stopped for lunch so it wasn't too bad. We got to Ho Chi Minh mid afternoon and just went to look around the local market before we all went for dinner. We had 6 new people join us for the Vietnam part of the tour and 8 were leaving the next day. We went to a nice Vietnamese restaurant which also did Mexican food, quite common in Ho Chi Minh. There I had fajitas, one of the best meals I have had in ages.
Yesterday we got up early to see off the guys that were leaving. It was quite sad as being together for the last 10 days we had all become good friends. We then had a Cyclo tour booked which took us around the city and dropped us off outside the War Museum. A Cyclo is where one person sits in a seat at the front and is attached to a sort of bike. The guys that did the Cyclo tour for us also did it for Clarkson, Hammond and May in the Top Gear Vietnam Special. They were quite scary on the busy roads but we got to the museum in one piece. To get into the War Museum was about 40p. Outside it had tanks and aircraft used in the War. After the museum we went back to the restaurant for lunch that we had been to the night before. Again the food was great.
Last night we had an overnight train to Nha Trang. We got on the train at 8pm. Myself, Scott and 2 other girls who have been on the trip too since the beginning had a two bunk room together. At first they looked alright, we had bedding, a table, free water and electric sockets. Scott said he was having the top bunk so I had to have bottom. We were laying on our beds chatting when I saw something dart accross the floor. I thought it was a cockroach so I shouted "Cockroach" and one of the girls screamed really loud. Everyone heard and came to see what had happened. Our tour guide Bond started looking on the floor and then we realised that there was a small rat running round and a cockroach too. We called one of the guys that worked on the train and he came and looked around the room but couldn't find anything, he saw that there was a hole between us and the room next door and filled it. Later I saw the rat run into the room next door so we kept the door shut all night and I slept on the top bunk with Scott as he refused to go on the bottom bunk. We have another sleeper train tomorrow night so we know what's in store.
We were so happy to get off the train at 5am this morning. We are now in Nha Trang which is a seaside town. We are planning on going to the mud baths and thermal pools tomorrow.
