Monday 4th June Aarhus
Today was moving day! Well, well we left Ballum after 6 pleasant days and headed north towards Aarhus but had to make a detour towards Jelling.
Jelling is the ancient burial place of the Danish kings dating back more than 1000 years. It is a UNESCO world heritage site as well. It si small and not easy to get too as it involved driving along narrow twisting roads. However, it is a gently, quiet place in the middle of a small town. The graveyard is unlike anything I have seen anywhere. Each plot is surrounded by a small hedge and is individually tended.
The church is white, just like the one we saw on Romo at Kirkeby. Inside its simplicity stands out in all of its whiteness. At the far end our wall paintings, of an age that was hard for me to determine. Meryl says that they pre-date the reformation.
Then , after a brief lunch we headed further north and to a camp north of the city that hopefully will give us access both to the city and other attractions.
