Less than 200 Km's north of Hobart, on the east coast is the Freycinet park. The park is an isthmus of land which juts down with Oyster Bay to the west and the Southern Ocean to the east. The park is dominated by a range of pink granite mountains (450 meters high). Oyster bay is very protected which allows paddling, swimming and other water activities. We hiked over the mountains to Wine Glass bay which is very picturesque and secluded and has a perfect white sand beach. It was not as strenuous as it sounds........ the pass is at 225 meters and the total distance is 11 km...... it's actually less strenuous than a day shopping with Trish. The trail was superb and the vistas tremendous. The day was warm but not hot and a cool breeze blew off the ocean. The hike took 5 hours and when we were finished we drove back to the lodge, showered and had dinner in the lodge dinning room. The Freycinet Lodge reminds me of the Jasper Park Lodge with an ocean. Individual cabins with a central dining facility, very comfortable. Tomorrow we are off to Launceston, on the north coast.
