9 - 11 April
It was a short ride to Vang Vieng from Vientiane and when we arrived we quickly found a lovely room to stay, it had a balcony overlooking the river.
Vang Vieng was a town just full of restaurants, pubs and travel agencies, it was a traveller's haven, but it seemed to have lost its soul a bit since I was last there. The area's magnificent natural beauty was now overshadowed by half dressed, drunks.
Our first day we took it easy and we watched a few films in a bar and then went to bed in preparation for tubing the next day.
What is tubing you may ask? Well, you sit in a rubber ring floating down the river on a rubber ring and stop off at bars along the way to get free shots and refresh yourself with a pint of beer.
There are half a dozen bars on a two kilometre stretch of the river and each bar has a rope swing or zip line, which kept Adam entertained for the afternoon.
I enjoyed tubing so much than I had last time, it wasn't wet season so the river was nice and sleepy and slow.
We spent the day with two couples, Felix and Jackie, and Ryan and Natalie. We had so much fun. There was even a few bars with pits of mud to wrestle in. At night we all went for a bite to eat, but we were all too tired to carry on drinking, we had had our first beer at 10am and we didn't get back until after 6pm.
The next day it was off to Luang Prabang to celebrate the new year in with the world's biggest water fight!
