Sara's Journey
Bonjour Everyone!
Ive been quite busy since my last entry so i will try and keep it short and sweet as im sure you have plenty of work to be getting on with, he he!
Well we spent one more day in Luang Probang and went to see the local waterfall. As we had seen quite a few by this point i wasnt really expecting much as its the dry season and they havent really been flowing very fast. Well i was mistaken as this waterfall was amazing! It cascaded down for about 2 miles over various rock formations and at the end of each waterfall was a pool of clear blue water that we could swim in, it was heaven! The water was actually quite cold but this was rather nice after the hot midday sun! There was also a tiger that you could visit which was saved from a poacher but it was still quite sad as her enclosure was quite small. We were allowed to stroke her which was abit crazy and no one attempted to except for good ole' me! Well, i nearly got my hand bitten off in the process and as you can imagine i removed my hand from the cage rather quick! There were also a few black Asian bears that we could look at, they were really sweet and playful!
The next day we travelled to Vang Vieng which was a 5 hour bus ride round the mountain (again). The journey was a little scary to say the least as we had to take the notorious 'route 13' which has seen two bomb attacks on local buses and various attacks by armed gangs, 34 people died on the last attack in 2003. There were two armed guards sitting on the bus with rather large guns which was certainly a worry, the journey is one i will remember!
We finally arrived in Vang Vieng which again was a picturesque town situated in the valleys of lime stone cliffs. We went 'tubing' the first day we got here which involves sitting in a large rubber inner tube and floating down the river. There are about 15 bars on the way and we tried to stop at most of them! We were drinking the local 'beer Lao' at 11 o'clock in the morning so as you can imagine by 6.30pm we had had a few! At each bar there are various swings and zip lines that you can on and drop into the river, there was also a very large platform to jump off of which stood at 15 metres! Me and Jenny jumped off it after some persuassion and it was awful! I was sooo scared! We both hit the water really hard and now we are covered in foot long bruises from head to toe! Its one injury after another out here! We went to the lagoon for a swim today and just relaxed which was nice! We are going to move on tomorrow to the Capital of Laos, Vientianne.
Hope you are all well,
Love Sara
