Sara's Journey
Hi there!
Well another week has flown past and i am now in the town of Kuta, Bali. We arrived last Sunday after flying from Singapore. we were a little unsure of whether to come to Kuta or not as this is where the 3 'Bali bombings' took place only last year. However we made the desicion to come and im glad we did. Kuta is very busy and the whole town is based upon the surf industry. There are surf shops everywhere you go and lots of surfers to go with it! I have to say that all the surfers fit the stereotype, very tanned, long hair, laid back and very nice bodies, he he!
We had a bit of a nightmre the first night we arrived as we got dropped off at this guest house by our taxi driver and as we were so tired we said we would take the room, which was a mistake as when we turned the light on it was gross! It was dirty and had mosquitoes everywhere! We left our bags there for about 10 minutes until we found somewhere else. We then went and got our bags but the hotel owner wouldnt let us go and said we had checked in (which we hadnt!) and we has to stay there or pay for the room anyway! We tried to carry on walking but he started grabbing us and pulling on our bags! He followed us for ages going mad as us saying he going to call the poilce so we had to hide until he had gone! It was certainly an experience!
The next day we just wondered around the shops as its shopping heaven here, everthing is so cheap and they have some lovel clothes and local crafts.
We decided to be a bit more adventurous the next day and went white water rafting, well, i have never been so scared! the river was really high as it had been raining for the last couple of nights. Jenny and i were both really scared as we nearly got de-capitated about 3-4 times! When the guide who is also in the raft with you, shouts 'boom, boom' it means you are about to hit a rock and he grabs you and pulls down into the raft otherwise you get hit! Good job he was there or we would be dead! There was aslo a 4 meter drop at the end of the river which again was rather nerve racking! It was definalty worth it though as you eel you have accomplished something at the end and its another thing to tick off the list!
The next day we decided to be adventurous again! We went horse riding to Saba beach which was about an hours drive from Kuta. We got to the stables and got on our horses, mine was named Jenny, he he!
We rode on the beach and through the sea which wa really nice until 'Jenny' decided to buck me off! I ended up hanging onto her neck for my dear life! Trust my luck to get the crazy horse!I was a little worried after that and swapped horses but the second horse also seemed a little cross and kept running off! It was funny though, i must have looked liek a complete fool as all the surfers and locals on the beach were having a right old laugh at me!
We rode on the horses for about 2 hours and then went to this really swanky hotel and spa fpr dinner which was a nice change!
The next day we went to a beach resort we had been recommended, which was named 'Dreamland' so we thought it must be nice! Well, it certainly was nice, it was the best beach ive been to yet. The water was crystal clear and the waves were massive, it was full of surfers which were amazing to watch. Its so clever how they manage to balance on the edge of a wave.
We stayed there for one night, in this beach hut which had no roof! It was really strange listening to the sea all night, it was like sleeping on the beach. the insects were really scary though as they were everywhere so i got no sleep what so ever! we stayed on the beach all day yesterday and left lsat night to come back to Kuta. We are leaving tomorrow to fly to Australia, cant believe it!
Speak soon when im in Oz!
Love Sara
