My last night in KL was alright, it was a little creepy as a guy who sleeps in a bed the other side of the dorm told me that he likes my laugh but loves it when I smile in my sleep....that combined with the fact that he asked me if I wanted some Tramadol (which knocks me out) creeped me out somewhat! Thank heavens I was leaving at the crack of dawn this morning! I will admit that I failed on doing some research before travelling on, the train station didn't open till 6 am which left me waiting there for half an hour...oops..
The flight to Singapore though was really quick and the plane was half empty so I had all 3 seats to myself...get in! I think there was some confusion between Ryan and myself as to where we were to meet each other but I came out of the gate and he was there sitting with his laptop. It was nice to see him after so long and we talked all the way through the airport and into town before reaching our hotels. Turns out they are literally a stones throw away from each other too which is nice.
I took a walk through the City Hall area and down towards the Marina where I had a coffee overlooking the bay. I said before how I thought the shops in KL were massive but they don't have a scratch on the Marina Bay Sands shoppes! Definite red credit card bill time! At 8pm every night there is a light show at the Marina, which I thought would just be a few laser lights and nothing much but it was fantastic! Jets of water created a huge canvas for film to be projected onto and it told the story of light and water throughout life. I looked behind me and there was the sky park, something I might save a visit to until my birthday in a couple of days time. I wandered through the shopping complex and went over to the Gardens at the Bay. Once again another marvel. There are these giant towers (which by the way look like they've just come from War of the worlds...) which are lit up and have flora and fauna literally growing on them from top to bottom. Singapore also has it's own smaller version of the London Eye, I was unable to get to it though as due to the F1 taking place a lot of places are cornered off so you cannot walk round....stupid F1 lol.
I eventually decided that I wanted some Dim Sum, not had a food craving in a long time but went all the way to Chinatown to discover I'd left it too late and had to come back. I ended up having some in the Lavender hawker centre...don't. I swear I thought I was going to have food poisoning I felt so sick afterwards. I should have realised something was wrong when a local guy sat there shouting in his language that he thought the food was horrible...what gave me this impression? Well it could have been him taking his Dim Sum apart and throwing it around the table like a rubber ball! Shouting as it bounced so it was either undercooked or utterly fowl. I am going with the second of the two since mine was also horrible!
Sat about today thinking about what to do over the next couple of days, thinking perhaps Singapore night safari, sky park, Casino, Raffles hotel for afternoon tea and drinks (Singapore Sling) in the Long Bar. Sounds a bit expensive but I don't care it's my birthday I'll be spending money on! Just wondering how to top this next year!
The picture is of The Gardens by the Bay.
