Yesterday I had a really chilled out day, I simply got hold of a book from the lodge and sat about in the restaurant area reading. I've not been this chilled out in ages and it was good to read a book again. So good that in fact I finished the book in one sitting! It sounds like a massive achievement till you learn that the book is in fact only 200 pages long!
I turned to Howard in the afternoon and asked whether he thought it was going to rain and he said it might rain later on. Cool as a cucumber...a couple of hours later and the sky was pitch black and the wind had gathered great strength as it lashed it down with rain. The Tip of Borneo had been caught in part of the storm which was currently raging across the Philippines. It was so windy that everything was covered in sand within a couple of minutes! It made sleeping in the longhouse interesting as spray occasionally hit my face, I laid there wondering how Matt was coping with it in the little bamboo tent outside *laugh*.
Today I decided that I was going to start reading yet another book from the longhouse. Not wanting to waste yet another day I decided to take a walk up to The Tip of Borneo. This is about 2km from the restaurant and is along a straight road so no chance of getting lost. It was nice, still a little windy but there is a plaque and monument up there detailing when the Malay flag was raised and that this is the furthest northern part of Borneo. I will admit I was a little bit naughty and went down onto the rocks past the no entry sign and just sat there for a bit before deciding to amble back along the beach. I left just in time, just as a massive bus load of tourists showed up!
Tonight I sat playing Dominos with Gary (from Sydney) and listened to Linda and her son Rupert argue over something from the 1930's which made for very awkward conversation afterwards lol. Matt offered me a lift back in his Lamborghini (you should see this thing, death trap on wheels but he loves it lol) and I just laughed, not quite like the Nissan Skyline R34 which keeps storming past the restaurant every day! Tomorrow is going to be my last full day at Tampat Do Aman and if the bikes are back then I might do the suggested cycle route through the jungle and dirt tracks, it's only 26km...
The picture is me at the very tip of Borneo past the no go sign on the rocks near the water.
