Executive Summary - Ger Camp
-
Saw: Khazak burial area, traditional Ger camps, turtle rock, electrical storm across the countryside, camels, goats, first yak (!), horses, cows.
-
Did: Dressed up in traditional costumes, rode horses, played a game involving flicking the bones of dead animals at each other, visited a nomad family, witnessed a horse being milked for airang, attempted to get up for a sunrise and failed.
-
Ate/Drank: Airang (fermented mare's milk), beef noodle soup, national soup (broth with broken meat dumpling pieces), buuz (steamed mutton dumplings), aaruul (dried yoghurt), bortsog (fried bread, served with cream)
-
Favourite part about the Ger Camp: The countryside is absolutely stunning. It is amazing how you can look for miles around and see absolutely no trees.
-
Least favourite part about the Ger Camp: Due to the short amount of time we had, we only went 75 minutes out of UB so the camps were all a bit touristy. We had to take photos of our Gers by covering up the identifying number 32 on the front of the structure So...it did lack a bit of authenticity!
-
Life-altering revelation which has contributed to my search for universal truth: Camels with 2 humps only exist in Mongolia, China and Russia.
-
Current career thought: Professional ankle-bone flicker.
