We are waiting at the airport to head to Athens. My stomach was all in knots cause our tickets said we should be at terminal 1 but we were specifically told we should be at terminal 3. It's quite a distance between the two terminals and the shuttle we were on kept breaking down. Not to mention we appeared to be traveling in circles.
I think we might have been running a little bit late cause we didn't have too long to wait to board the plane. They actually fed us on the flight too which I wasn't expecting since it's such a short flight.
We arrived in Athens alright. Caught a cab to our hotel. Athens is such a different city to Cairo. It's much more beautiful. There's so much green everywhere. I am so happy to be out of Cairo. I loved Luxor and Aswan but I really don't think much of Cairo.
There are so many mopeds here! Almost as many as cars. And most of them don't wear their helmets.
The hotel is much smaller than the one in Egypt. No pool. There is however a small terrace on the seventh floor with an excellent view of the city. You can even see the Acropolis from here, though only from the back of it.
Bec spent part of the afternoon trying to sort out her insurance only to find out she's going to have to wait until she gets home to finish it. It also didn't take me long to realise I had left my travel card at the ATM machine in the airport. Well done, genius. Bec let me use her cell phone to call visa and get them to cancel it.
Athens is great. We're staying in the Plaka which is the old part of the city with long narrow streets.
We met with our tour group tonight. It's very different from Egypt. Instead of a group of six we have a group of around thirty. We haven't spoken to everyone yet but still all the names are all jumbled in my head. We met in the dinning area at seven and went through the all formalities. Then around quarter past eight we went out for dinner.
Dinner was fantastic. It was a small place still in the Plaka and very traditional. The food was awesome. I think it was the most I've eaten the whole trip. Fortunately the meal lasted around two hours so things had a chance to settle. There was also so traditional dancers but there wasn't much room for them to put on too much of a show. Still it was really fun.
The variety of people on the tour is amazing. Some are just traveling for a week or two, some are off for longer.
We have an early start tomorrow and I imagine getting moving will take a while with this many people.
