Picked up at 1.30am to take us to Mount Batur to climb a volcano. We managed to squeeze in a few hours sleep before. Stopped off for banana pancakes at 3am for our brekky, my new fave.
It was a sunrise trek so we had to started climbing at 4am, it was pitch black so I got to use my head torch for the first time :). It was a very steep climb to the top of the volcano with only our torches for light. We had no idea where we were.
The top of the summit was sand/ ash which was impossible to climb but a good workout for us. It was incredible at the top, we could see lake batur at the bottom and another volcano opposite. Large amounts of the ground were black from the lava when it last erupted in the 60s. We watched the sun rise and got SE amazing photos. They supplied banana sandwiches and boiled egg for us.
The climb down was so hard we were slipping and tripping our way down. We couldn't believed we had climbed it, it was like rock climbing. Kind of glad we did it in the dark otherwise I think it would of put us off. Once at the bottom our transport dropped us off in Ubud.
