A 6 hour bus ride later I arrived at a recommended hostel , much to my unexpectation the guest house, and all surrounding buildings were floating! The roads are mostly flooded because there has been so much rain. A cosy little place I settled in for a quiet night, consisting of my book, a beer, dinner and some ovalteen before bed. I haven't been so relaxed and got such a good nights sleep in ages.
A late start of 9am I had some Muslie and fruit for breakfast before jumping on the local bus to the old city. The town is centered around some ruins, an ancient city that once was here. They are said to be the oldest ruins in Thailand. I struggle to find any temples or ruins live up to those at Siam Reap, Angkor Wat in Cambodia. But nevertheless I enjoyed cycling around, exploring the site.
An ice cream and some lunch later I was back on the bus towards the Guest house…. It was very hard to see the lane my guest house was down on the bus and I overshot the mark. When asking for directions at a local café, before I knew it the lady had phoned my hotel and asked for directions… all of a sudden the waiter from the morning arrived on his motorbike! I lept on the back and before I knew it I was back at the hotel napping! Couldn't believe I'd fallen asleep!
A short bike ride into the new city, when I crossed the river I couldn't beleive the water! THey have built the walls as high as the bridge, so the water barely fits under the arches! Its almost road level! NO idea what happens if it rains more! I treated myself to dinner in a recommended restaurant - what can I say it was divine. I was hankering for Spring Rolls (of course) but instead I tried the crushed corn and port fritters served with Chili Sauce and for main the Chicken in a Brown Massaman Curry with potato. I would say the best meal from Thailand, with the meal from the 2nd trek in close second place!
Little expore of the New City in the morning before I catch a bus to Ayuthaya!
