We made it through immigration and got a speed boat water taxi to Caye Caulker. Dani was trying to be super organised and had booked us into Bella's Hostel. On the boat everyone was asking us where were we staying and we repeated to them smugly 'Bella's', we booked well in advance. Supposedly it is the 'IT' place to stay. We offered to show them where Bella's was when we got off the ferry in case they still had vacancies but it was unlikely. We trekked down to the hostel with a Canadian couple but when we arrived there was a no vacancy sign at the door. We apologised to the couple and suggested they try Dirty McNasty's (there was no way we were staying there with a name like that) and made our way into the hostel. We arrived at the door, saw the no shoes sign, took off our shoes and opened the door, glad to finally take off the backpacks and rest our legs BUT Nicole (she runs the place with her husband) told us there are no dorms left. Dani showed her the email with the confirmation but she suddenly realised she had said Monday 20th Jan in the subject line instead of Monday 18th Jan. Oops. We had rooms from Wednesday but not for Monday so Nicole offered to bring down a mattress and we could sleep on the floor (the place was very crowded so not sure where she was intending to put us). Another girl offered up her spare bed in her dorm. We politely declined both offers. She then rang her friend down the street who also owned a hostel called 'Juan in a million'. Luckily he had two beds left in his dorm. People are super friendly on the island and English is their first language so it was very easy to get directions to the hostel but we kept asking for 'one in a million'. When we arrived there was a rasta guy with long dreadlocks dancing to Bob Marley track cooking his jerk chicken and a lady behind the bar serving up drinks. The hostel was attached to this bar. We both looked at each other and thought we are going have a great nights sleep. We freshened up quickly and met our Australian friends in a bar and then went to Frans grill for dinner and listened to reggae music while watching people gyrating to the music. It was certainly amusing watching the older women enjoying the rum punch and letting themselves loose on the dance floor.
We got the low down on all hot spots from the girls and then checked out the reggae bar at 11. We were an hour too early because supposedly the golden hour is between 12 - 1. We are both now back in the hostel and the bar doesn't seem to be too noisy. I am sure will be listening to Bob's finest tunes while trying to sleep. We are moving to Bella's tomorrow morning as its in the more fun end of town. We are staying here until Friday and then head off on our sailing trip around the belize coast.
