OK, I know I have only been here a week and a half, but have already seen and done so much that I need to get it all written down before I forget.
So what can I say about Buenos Aires? Well, its a great city with quite a lot going on and a fair amount of things to do (and its pretty empty at the moment as is their summer so a lot of people are on holiday). Have managed to get my bearings and find my way around really easily. It has a typical european feel to it with the late starts and extremely late (or early) endings to the evenings. Everyone here has a dog and on my way to school everyday I see at least one professional dog walker. Its quite a sight, 1 person surrounded by at least 12 dogs of all shapes and sizes. Very odd.
I moved into my homestay and have started at school. My family, Virginia, Marcelo and their crazy dog Toto are lovely. Its great, I already feel at home there. School is also going well. Its still quite basic, but I must be improving as all the lessons are completely in spanish and I am understanding a lot more (still only a bit though). The school arrange a lot of social activities in the evenings and so far I have tangoed a bit, and ended up in the bigest club here, with an outside dancefloor facing the docks-was gorgeous! They also had a fiesta friday night, which started at the school, went on to a club and ended up with me coming home at 6.45. Was great night though and met some great people.
I have explored much more of the city, including downtown with all the big important buildings, Recoleta (where my school is) and the hugh famous cemetory with Eva Peron (Evita's) grave. Also went to La Boca, the more working class area of the city and home to Boca Juniors. It is such a colouful pretty place, with live music, market stalls and people tangoing on the street. Did the staduim and museum tour-a must for football fans. Have also managed to fit in a bit more shopping-opps, but without a doubt the highlight so far was the River Plate v Boca Juniors football match.
Unfortunatley the day started 15 minutes after I got home from the fiesta on sat morning, but lucky for me we had a 6 hour drive so I could sleep a bit. Went to Mar Del Plata, a beach location south of here (where everyone here holidays) so got to spend a bit of time chilling on the beach, then headed off to the staduim for the night match (K.O 10pm). Was insane! Quite scary going into the staduim as there were so many police dgos and police with helmets, guns, rifles, batons and sheilds. Felt a bit like I was going into a prison, but once we were inside it was jsut incredible! The fans from both teams were great. We got there 2 hours before kick off and the noise was just amazing. Everyone was singing the whole time. We all joined in, making us words that sounded the same or singing english chants. We were stood in the River end and the whole staduin was just a sea of red and white and blue and yellow with flags everywhere. They also had flares and fireworks. The 1st half wasn't that great, but the 2nd half was brill with River scoring 2 goals to win the match. Even though Boca were losing, never once did they stop singing and they even stayed to the very end (unlike english bad losers!) Took us another 6 hours to get home, so was pretty crazy very long 2 days, but all in all was amazing!
Well thats all for now xx
