Bangkok Pt II
We have now settled in to travelling life a bit more but continued to check out all of the touristy sites in Bangkok. We have also been to Wat Pho (largest Wat in Bangkok - maybe in Thailand?) - here we were able to take photos of the Budha's unlike at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra.
We then had our first experienec on a Tuk-Tuk...hair raising to say the least!! They should have one of those at Alton Towers! We spent all afternoon and part of the evening wandering around the back streets and markets of Chinatown; it was fantastic to absorb the atmoshere and be amongst the hustle and bustle. But the smells were interesting!!
We spent most of that evening in a bar watching Wimbledon - they all have it on here, and because of the time difference it is live but we can wach it after dinner!! Seen more than if I was back home.
We have also been to Jim Thompson's house!! He was an expat responsible for developing the Thai silk export industry as well as some interesting architecture over here. Following this we went to chill out in "Bangkok's lung" - Lumphini park. It's got to be the only park in world where you can't smoke! There was lots of people coming to do their exercises and Tai-Chi after work, as well as a lot of speed walking! As we bravely took another Tuk-Tuk journey home we passed an aerobics class which was just going on in the middle of the pavement of one of the main streets!! Random!
Last night we had our first real "character building experience" when we went to pick up our passports and Vietnam visa's from the hotel reception - to be told that they didn't have them and they didn't know anything about it!! The company we had done this through was shut by this point and we knew that the embassy is closed on a weekend. The hotel were not helpful, but all we could do was wait until the morning...then we had a phone call at 2.30am saying that there was a message for us at reception!! That alone is enough to get the old ticker going!...anyhow, our passports and visas were waiting at reception for us!
Today we need to save some money so we will try out the hotel pool as this is only the second day we have had sunshine!
