Sleep and slaves
O what a great nights sleep. This hotel, Mustique suites, had the best air-conditioning we have seen for a long time. I wish I could say I felt better, however that would be a lie. We relaxed in the room for a while and decided to head to Dennies for a big American brunch. Sarah could remember a granola and fruit she had as a kid, a fair few years ago. When we arrived we found many huge meals but no granola.... I guess it's other food for us.
I ordered a pancake slam, two huge pancakes (which would have been enough on their own), 2 eggs, 2 rashes of bacon and a hash brown the size of a large steak, half the plate. Sarah had 1/4 a loaf of bread in two pieces of French toast with banana and caramel, two eggs and bacon as well. What a huge dish. We had to do nothing for a while after this.
We put our feet up and read for a while and for me to try and get better. Also that meal made walking more of a waddle.
We looked up and found there was only one of the attractions open we wanted to visit, so we planned to go, just giving enough time to relax. Outside today was even hot for people from Curaçao. It was scalding hot and simple energy draining.
We arrived at the Kura Hulanda museum, ready to learn about Curaçao's history as the slave drop off point for the Dutch East Indian trading company. For $3 each we picked up a guide and started our tour around the amazingly well restored courtyard. We walked past a great sculpture of a woman which from the side is a map of Africa. We learnt about slavery and the conditions the slaves were put through to make here from Africa. Just after the start we were joined by one lady and straight after by two others. When the first lady joined i feel she may have missed the point, worried about sores on the bums of slaves who had to sit in the one position. She didn't think that if 20% die, the rest having sore is not likely to be high in their worries. They were all also insured, so who cares what happened.
We walked around and found the place very interesting however I was flagging very badly. It was going from bad to worse, having to sit down at every turn. It got funny when I headed to the toilet and Sarah was with the other three. At this point she got to enjoy racism at its best, with the explanation of Indians being stupid, unfriendly and totally incompetent for having cows as a holy animal. We finished the tour, the guide returning to English, much to the disgust of part of our racist tour group.
We finished up, had a free cup of tea while watching the birds, found the Avis location and headed back.
It was the final part to a long day, especially me, I think I need medical attention.
