G-E-R-M-A-N-Y
We landed onto German soil, my first part of Europe. German efficiency was put on hold today as I waited for a lifetime to get through passport control. After this they waited another half hour to start putting bags on the slowest moving conveyer belt, one bag every 15 seconds after that. I'm not sure if they were walking them one by one from the plane. Finally we got our bags and walked through the nothing to declare line and we were in Germany. Hmmm, no x-ray, even Bolivia had an x-ray machine.
The sky train and train to Aachan made us feel more like we were in Europe, that and the grey sky with drizzle. Sarah keeps telling me to get use to it.
We got on the train with a Spanish guy, a German lady and a Chinese man, all under a 5 person ticket. It turns out its more common than you think as its expensive to use the train, but this 5 person ticket is good value. We paid €10 each instead of €27 each we were about to pay. Good deal but it did feel really dodgy. Sarah had a nap while I wrote this.... I can't write more, I'm on the train.
Later:
We arrived into Aachan to see our good friend Tom, still with a beard but no longer looking like a backpacker, waiting to greet us. We headed straight from here for a quick car tour of the city as we picked up Greek food for dinner and went home.
We arrived to be greeted by Vera and an amazing house with heaps of animals. A cat, many fish and more birds the in the bush in Germany (they lived in an avery outside, not all flying around and cherping us insane).
The food was great, the flavours we have not had for 10 months, and the beer, ohhhhhh the beer. Across the corse of the night, Tom and Vera fed me a beer (or more) from the north, the south, the east and the west. I had each corner in one night. Thank you guys!!
We filled the night first with an anti violence candle vigil outside the football stadium, then drove to the top of a hill to see the city at night. The hill has a story attached to it. The story explains that the devil funded the building of a church in exchange for the first sole which entered it. The people cheated the devil and pushed a wolf (or a dog) in first. This angered the devil and he slammed the door shut, unfortunately on his finger (which is still in the door). He returned with a bag full of rocks and sand to bury the church and arrived a small distance away. He asked an old lady directions and she saw his one horse foot and lied that it was a long way and there was no way to carry a bag that heavy that far. The devil smashed it on the ground and it expanded to be the hill today.
On the hill are footprints from the devil when he found how close he was and some statues to tell the story.
A few of the beers in a local bar and we headed home for a great nights sleep.
