Well Hello and Welcome to my final blog entry from NZ!!
What a busy few days we have had since I was last in touch and have I got some stories to tell you!!!
We left Queenstown and headed towards Milford Sound, really looking forward to getting there and seeing the place as we had heard so much about it. Drove past Te Anau and headed for the Sound and suddenly realised that we had no diesel left and then it dawned on us that Te Anau (which was 140km behind us) had been the last place for get diesel if going to the Sound, which was another 100km in front of us and there was no petrol station there either!! Ops!! We found some German guys and asked them to send an emergency S.O.S text message (we also had no signal to add to the horror story, we were in the middle of nowhere after all!!) to friends of ours who were meant to be joining us the next day asking them to get us some diesel so we crossed our fingers and toes and hoped for the best the next morning. Over night we wondering what if the girls hadn't received the text, what if they thought it was a joke, what if we were stuck here in the NZ version of the Outback forever, so I decided to hitch a lift back to Te Anau, buy a diesel can, fill it and get a lift back. Fortunately, the girls had just pulled into Te Anau when I rang them to they were my lift back, we were fortunate!
We finally got to the Sound, named after Milford Sound in West Wales you'll be pleased to know and what a beautiful place it is, mind-blowing. We took a boat trip around the sound and a large pod of Bottle-nosed dolphins joined us for the ride, they were so pretty. The photo's don't do this place any justice but are worth a look, really amazing.
Back to Wanaka (our favourite place in NZ!!) where we met with George and Elliott again and decided to treat ourselves to a night out as we had just booked our Sky Dive for the following day and the weather was looking promising. It was Uncle Stephens birthday so I rang him to wish him a lovely day, Kiwi Style. Great night out and woke up to beautiful blue skies which could only mean one thing, we were going to be jumping out of a plane, 15, 000ft up in the air, free falling at apx. 160m an hr for 60 seconds and then parachuting for 8 mins! Boy were we scared! But it was the best thing I have ever done and you must see the photo's, I bought the DVD as well and its definitely worth a look at when I get back. After about 6 seconds of terror sitting on the edge of the plane, the free fall was amazing and the adrenaline incredible. Wonderful views of Mt. Cook and the lakes and worth every penny, can’t wait to do the next one!!
From Wanaka it was North to see the Glaciers, and it was worth the long trip up there. Sez and I did a trek on the Fox Glacier, crampons and all! Good experience and we had a good day. I then decided to develop a fever and tonsillitis so have been bed-ridden ever since but am now in Christchurch being looked after by Richard and Clare, yet again, so at least Im in the right place!!
We fly back to Auckland tomorrow and then over the Fiji so I expect the next blog entry will be from here!
For now, goodbye from NZ and thanks for my Message Board entries, keep them coming!!
Lots of love, Sara xxxxxxxxxxx
