Tonight is my last night in Shanghai and I have had a super time here! I have spent my time with Alex from Washington and Neil from Boston (who can speak Chinese - Super handy!). Tomorrow I have another new experience of a 20 hour train ride to Xi'an on a hard sleeper train!! =/
Yesterday was a fab day. Me and Alex went to the Jade Buddah temple and then met Neil at People's Square at the Shanghai Museum- very interesting. We then had lunch at a little Chinese place. I ordered chow mien but got noodle soup which was actually really nice. It's strange I prefer to eat with chopsticks now!! Just before sunset we headed to the Hyatt hotel to a bar called The Vue which is an open top roof bar with a hot tub with an amazing view of The Bund and Shanghai. We had to pay to get in but got a free drink which we drank while chilling in the hot tub. It was freeezingggg. I think that's why we were the only idiots in the water lol!! When we got back at the hotel we had a few drinks and went out with a Chinese guy called Peter to find ice cream but again ended up at Mcdonalds haha opppps. Not sure why but it's slightly more expensive in Shanghai, 2 pound 30 for a meal.
Today (Thursday) was really cool. We woke up early and had breaky in the hostel and jetted around Shanghai. We went to the Yuyuan gardens and Baazaar which was beautiful and then to the City of God temple where me and Alex had lunch! I am really doing well at trying new things because if you look at my photo it didn't look particularly appetizing. I think you can decide what it looks like!! It was very nice and then we sat people watching and made time-lapse videos!
We didn't stop here. We headed down to the French concession onto these snazzy streets which were really European and had chocolate croissants in a fancy French bakery! Soooo goooood! It was weird to see lots of westernised boutiques and cafes. The day got even better when we went to a different part of the French concession. Its Shanghai Fashion week this week I'm not sure if I mentioned it but we went to the park where it was based to see what was popping. We got to the entrance and there were security barriers etc it was obvs a paid event. The entrance was full of people taking photos of models and film crews. Sun glasses on, we stood and watch. You don't think the paparazzi turned to us and started flashing away LMAO. There were so many cameras, we couldn't stop laughing! Even the film crew were videoing us. We thought it was hilarious and played along pretending we were models but I couldn't cope and kept turning around hahahaa Alex was loving life and these Chinese men in suits kept coming up taking photos with him. Literally made my day. After our photo shoot we had a stroll and got the metro back to our hostel where we watched Minions at the bar.
Shanghai has been fun and I will hopefully meet up with Alex somewhere else along my trip as he's travelling for a year!
My next post I will be in Xi'an. Miss you all.
