Hua Hin is a beach resort town in Thailand, in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, some 200 km south of Bangkok. Me friend suggested to stay there for a couple of days. In fact this is a good place for kiting and he worked there four month so he knows the area quite good.
So we took a minibus from Bangkok to Hua Hin and rented a motorbike for these days.
Do you know this tingly feeling when you first see the sea?
I was literally excited to swim in the waves and jumped into the water. I swum a good distance when I realised that I did not even ask about jellyfishes or other dangerous animals and about ebb and flow. So I swum back and noticed a not weak freshet. But this might sound now more serious then it was. I asked people about it and got to know that there are less jellyfishes but yesterday someone was touched by this red one and his leg is tally burned. I mean I saw people swimming there and a lot people kiting. But for my self I decided to be more careful.
In the next days we made a motorbike tour to the monkey mountains, where we saw a lot of playing and fighting monkeys and a nice temples on the top. It was a very peaceable atmosphere. One day I made a long walk threw the city and along the beach and was again confirmed by prejudices of european men and young Thais.
I have to write it again, it is just amazing walking through the small alleys and watching how the Thais lives. They are overwhelming friendly and taking effort to talk with you. The accent is quite tricky to understand though.
Today I went for a walk through a fish village, got a soup for breakfast and met a France family. I had an amazing chat with one guy of the family who was travelling through the world with only a bike, believe it or not, for 5 years with only 17000 euro. Finally he sattled here and married his Thai wife. From all countries he met, Thailand was the best he sad.
Hua Hin has the feature of beach and mountain. Unfortunately my leg problem is not good enough to hike but at least I wanted to make a cycling trip into the mountains. So my lazy friend took his motorbike and I rented a mountainbike. Mainly we followed a street up to the mountains. I was over happy to see the beautiful undulating landscape withing palms, banana trees, small lakes, hills and poor tin shack and posh houses. I have never seen this environment. Well, incedentally it was a great feeling to speed up and have some tricky paths.
I am over and over amazed by the Thais less security life. Electricity lines are hanging very close to the people that you can even touch them. A lot motorbike driver don't even carry a helmed and sometimes I watch 4 people on a motorbike or they carry a lot of stuff.
I found a Kakerlake/cockroach in my bathroom and I was not even disgusted by seeing it. Since I got this great experience by eating it I have such a positive link :-D
In the night from Thursday to Friday we had a heavy storm in the dimension of an hurricane. First I didn't assume the alarming proportions because from the hotel I only noticed heavy wind and rain. But in the morning we had no electricity and water. Many trees had broken the power lines.
I decided to move forward to the south to Chumpon, whereas my friend had to go back to Bangkok. On the way of this 5h ride to my next target, I saw the devastation of this hurricane. Streets, villages where flooded, power lines were broken and I saw how the people tried to handle it. Espcially I felt sorry when I passed very poor flooded tin shack village.
While my ride to Chumpon the bus stopped on a rest house I thought to eat something. But because I was surrounded by only Thais who couldn't speak english and in a rush i just ordered a normal Thai meal whithout asking which the lowest spicy one is. I tried my meal and thought what the f***! I got a strong explosion in my mouth, was sweating at once, felt even dizzy and struggled. The Thai family next to me was laughing and helped me with water. Even though I know water does not really help, I drunk the hole bottle. But I am proud of my self, in the end I ate at least the half of my portion and my mouth was burning.

Christof Great report! Take care with mosquitos. Use a repellent or a mosquito net. They carry Dengue fever. Good to avoid. - The Thais and traffic is a special theme. Thais are buddhists, they believe they will be reborn. Death by a traffic accident is not so much of concern for them. The result is a heavy numer on dead and heavily injured people, especially by motorbike accidents. You will see many young thais with big scars from motorbike accidents at the beach. If you do not believe in buddhism and want to survive your trip uninjured, it is a good idea to better drive no motorbike. If you cannot resist to the fun, please wear a helmet and drive at daytime only. In the night the risk of an accident with wild animals (especially dogs!) or drunken drivers is much higher than at daytime. - Hot food is no risk at all, you will get used to it and start loving it the more often you eat it. And it is pretty healthy, too! Thais say "Mai pet mai alloy", no spices, no taste. And they are right! If you like to be a coward, you can order your dish "Mai pet", non spicy, but I do not recommend it.
