We finally made it to Darwin and we love it! This place is awesome and the weather is brilliant - low 30's during the day and low 20's during the night, so it's shorts and singlets from the time you wake until the time you go to bed - perfect!
It's so nice to be back in civilisation too after being out in the sticks with no phone/Internet/good, fresh food. Adz the carnivorous teen has tried another couple of dead animals, namely croc and camel. He gave both the thumbs up, I liked the croc but I thought the camel was dry and stringy. Just proves that Adz will eat anything if it's in a burger or has been deep-fried!
Since our arrival we have been flat chat visiting the free water parks and lounging by the awesome swimming pool at our caravan park.
We had a cruise on the Adelaide River watching the jumping crocs, was nice to be sitting safely in the boat watching those badass crocs having a feed. The tour guide informed us that crocs don't chew - well they don't need to as they have a jaw snapping capacity of 5 tonnes! He also said to remember if you were to fall into the water you mustn't try to swim and you must decrease your heart rate to 50bpm, otherwise the crocs will sense your presence and....SNAP! We were all happy to stay on the boat and have a swim later at a nice, safe pool. Jess and I had fun playing with Medusa the Water Python when back on land and then it was time to head off back into Darwin.
Another fave place was the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets where we ate the yummiest food and gazed at the most beautiful pieces of Aboriginal art, which we would have loved to purchase but space and finances did not allow. The sunset over Mindil Beach was well worth the trip too.
Yesterday was an exciting day at the races, cane toad that is. Jess was lucky enough to be chosen as a toad catcher, which meant she had to catch the noble steeds as they jumped out of the ring...yuk! We weren't lucky enough to pick a winner but had heaps of fun anyway.
I could go on but suffice to say we all love Darwin and extended our 7 nights to 9, but unfortunately we have to leave tomorrow as we have more incredible sights to see at Kakadu. Love to all :).
