A two day stop-over in Seoul has exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a perfectly located bed and breakfast where we could walk through the narrow streets of traditional Korean homes and eat some delicious Korean food. We also strolled through two large palace complexes dating back to the 1400's. They both occupy big tracts of land which open large historic and picturesque areas in the middle of busy downtown Seoul. Insadong, a quaint antique shopping street with small shops and interesting street food was also fun - although not so much Ron's cup of tea!
It was fun staying in a traditional Korean room where we slept on mats on the heated wooden floor with cozy quilts overtop (which was great as it was below zero here yesterday!). In the daytime, the mats can be rolled up and the room used for other purposes. The bathroom is shower and toilet all together in a small room so that when you shower, the whole room gets wet and drains to the middle of the floor. It's a bit inconvenient as the floor is then wet so you need to wear sandals, but means that you can have a shower in a much smaller bathroom. I think we should adopt some of these ideas as our condos get smaller and smaller. The people in our bed and breakfast were very welcoming and so helpful at giving us ideas of things to see that they made our visit even better.
That's it for this trip. Heading' home....
