Our Travels
After breakfast we wandered out into the sunshine and made our way along the busy streets in the direction of the museum. On the way we passed many shops of all sorts and stalls selling many different kinds of snack and all sorts of drinks from chai to fruit smoothies. On the way we stepped inside the Wesley church which was cool and peaceful in contrast to the clamour outside. We took our lives in our hands crossing many of the busy side roads but, in the end, it seemed easy enough because if you simply step off and walk the traffic magically parts for you and you make it safely to the other side!
We reached the museum, formerly called the Prince of Wales museum, and went inside. Tickets for foreigners are much more expensive than those for locals which seems a bit unfair. We understand the principle that they have a lot of poor people, but they have a lot of very rich people as well and there ought to be a way to make it fairer for everyone. Anyway, we had a good look round and spent quite a lot of time looking at the (dead) animal exhibits which were very interesting. We watched a film about how Mumbai was formed from seven islands linked by causeways and this was very interesting and informative. Afterwards we sat in the sunshine and had a set lunch from the museum cafe, very good value.
