Our Travels
We took advantage of being on the Gold Floor to go and get some breakfast in the Penthouse Lounge. Back in the room we were once again in World Cup Football mode and watched the gripping game between Brazil and Chile. Chile should so have won that match, they really deserved it! Sadly they lost on the last penalty. A great disappointment as we should have loved to see them go through.
We took a wander outside and visited the Calgary Tower which is 2 minutes along the road from the hotel. We were provided with a talking guide and thought it was good value at CAD$18 a head. We enjoyed the views all around and learned quite a bit from the guide. It was a clear day and we could see the mountains in the distance, Olympic Park, the venue for the Calgary Stampedes and much more.
On leaving the tower we took a walk down the pedestrianized Stephen Avenue in the sunshine. This is a major pedestrian mall in downtown Calgary and has many cafes, pubs and bars. There are many signs and memorials giving information about the history of the place. There is a high concentration of historic buildings and many sandstone buildings which are common in this area.
We went in a very nice bar/pub and had an Okinagan lager which was good. We watched Uruguay go out to Colombo which was even better! Back at the hotel we browsed the Heritage Museum before returning to the Gold Lounge for canapes.
