Bangkok must be the most mind boggling place in the world. Its gigantic and chaotic. There is no highway code and people tend to just drive as the crow flies. Although, it does seem to work, I never saw a crash and I think as everyone does it it is pretty safe. Petrifying but safe.
I managed to find the hotel reasonably quickly using public transport and that was very nice (thanks mum!). Only one thing, noodles. Waking up for breakfast and smelling noodles made me feel quite sick. Everything in Bangkok smells of noodles! Ew.
We had 2 days there as we had to apply and wait for Vietnamese visas from the embassy. So we went to the Grand Palace to kill some time. We took a tuk tuk there which was a laugh but terrifying! A magnificent place, temple after temple. Each temple bigger and more colour full than the last.
The next day, after killing time in the markets we collected our visas at 1600 and had to race across the city to make our minibus to the border for 1630. It was close and we made it with 5 minutes left. Thank god for Bangkoks brilliant ublic transport!
After a 4 hour bus journey (some terrible roads but most was concrete) we made it to Aranya Prathet where we were to sleep that night. Although it was dark and late so we went to the first hotel we could, bad idea. The room was horrendous with stains and bed bugs! so we slept fully clothed and on top of our rucksack rain covers. HAHA! Not much sleep was had that night.
Next day we crossed the border (after sussing out a lot of scams, one was an entire office pretending to be the border and visa control!). Finally In Cambodia.
More to come!
