Quote of the moment:
"I'm too old for this s***" - Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3 and more than likely 4
It turns out we were right - starting our latest adventure with a 17 and a half hour bus journey was bold, brave and bloody uncomfortable.
Too hot, not enough room, bloke snoring behind, woman talking in front, knee hurting like mad (old war wound) and a rather worrying Dutch driver who looked like a retired Evil Henchman.
But we got here safe and sound, and found our hostel with no problems whatsoever. It came as no great surprise that our hostel was fulll of stoners, but we didn't realise just how big the place is - and that meant a LOT of stoners.
They were too busy to do the check in and it was still early so we dumped our bags and went for a wonder.... And Amsterdam is doing a great impersonation of Nottingham, with constructions sites cropping up everywhere. Apart from that it's pretty much how I remember it - lots of drugs, sex and bicycles.
We've just come from watching England beat Jamaica 6-0, in one of the bars brave enough to show it. It was full, unsurprisingly, with English stag weekends. Still, great fun was had and we managed not to smash the place up - Peter Crouch, the gangling goon of the match, kept everyone amused enough.
We decided last night that we didn't like Amsterdam much. Then today we changed our minds. It's just that it has no personality - and personality goes a long way. Its got all these lovely old buildings, and these nice cobbled streets, and lovely families cycling around, ringing their bells... And then it has live sex shows, red neon, lots of drugs and far too many English people. But it's still very likeable.
I can't write anymore - I'm really hot.
Oh, I saw a bit of the cricket yesterday, and it looked pretty sunny in Nottingham.. So I won't bother gloating about the fine weather....
You just wait till November.

foolsgold Ladies It's just an imaginatively titled card game is all. It's like the universal language of backpackers. Unfortunately, you can't really play it for money!
