The tent went up at Wanderas campsite without any major difficulties. It rained a little bit but all in all it was easy. We got a free dinner voucher at a place next door called Maroccos but it wasnt that good. We ordered risotto but they only had one serving left so Vicky changed her mind, then when my risotto came it was still hard so I went and swapped but because of my tongue I couldnt actually eat it. A bit of a disaster but atleast we didnt have to pay for it. On our first evening we just went for a little look round the town.
Theres not a lot to do in Airlie Beach unless you choose to do the Whitsundays which is the open water off Airlie which is home to 74 beautiful island. You can go on a 3day 2night boat trip and visit some of the islands but Vicky and I decided not to do it as we werent that fussed and are saving our money for things we absolutly want to do.
We decided to stay in Airlie for almost 2 weeks as we have time to kill and it is a lovely chilled place with a huge lagoon. We spent most of our time down the lagoon chillaxin during the day and then in the evening just having dinner and going to a few bars for drinks. We went out properly 3 night whilst we were here and ventured into Mama Africas which is the only club in Airlie and it plays great music and we had a really good time there.
We stayed in Wanderas campsite for 1 week but then decided to move to Magnums as it had its own bar and had a better buzz around, playing music, live bands and its just where everyone goes so theres a good vibe! We met a few Ozzy guys and one of them kept calling Vicky freckles and shorty!! They had a love hate relationship. Then the next day they showed up at our tent trying to get us to go out for drinks but we were still recovering from the other night so declined the offer! We may meet up in Sydney though as that is where they live.
The weather all in all has been fab. Really hot apart from a couple of days where it decided to rain and in the evening it was blowing a hooly and raining and the tent suffered a minor leak but nothing too desatrous. And also how annoying were the huge chicken things that lived behind the tent? Very annoying. They were so loud and squarking at silly times in the morning. Glad to leave them behind.
Whilst we were down the lagoon the other day this hippy guy approached us and wanted us to sign his petition to allow the use of all illegal drugs for health issues. He also went on to explain that if you talk to a leaf telephone you can hear the elf robots that live inside and they will guide you and help you out, and that all the drug addicts would have jobs in the factories making the drugs that could be used to help relieve a headache etc.... what a weirdo! I couldnt contain my laughter and Vicky was just egging it on asking questions and he was actually serious. Very funny. Apart from him the other people that we have met have been really nice and there have been a few people from previous hostels that we have bumped into which has been nice to see familiar faces and I'm sure we will bump into them again.
A couple that we did bump into at Magnums bar was a guy who grew up on Wentworth Avenue in Southbourne and went to Porchester School, what a small world, and plays the back of Harry Potters head!!! Basically when Harry is needed for facial filming this guy plays harry when all they need is his back. I was so star struck! And his girlfreind does lighting/filming for things like the Weakest Link. They were a really nice pair and the guy kept saying 'Oh bizarre' and he just made us smile. They were lovely people!!
Our camping experience has been good apart from an ant infestation that we had last night. We had to empty the whole temt out and pack our stuff, we needed to pack anyway as we were moving into a room so they did us a tiny favour, disinfect the tent and lay our stuff down again, sorted!! Until we woke up to another ant infestation ay 8:00am. So we were up and packing down the tent by 8:30am. Thanks alot ants!!! We have moved into a Cabin and Magnums as we have an early bus to catch tomorrow and didnt fancy packing the tent at silly o'clock. The room that we are in though homes 5 guys who we think had a heavy night last night as we walked into the room and was just hit with the smell of stale beer. OMG it was disgusting. Boys hey!!!
We leave for Frasier Island tomorrow @ 7:00am where we do our 4x4 driving round the Island and you have to be 21 to drive over here so we will just be getting drunk in the back!!! the drive takes well over 16 hours but after 11 we are stopping at Kroombit for the night and the next morning have a few activities that should be fun lined up for us. Horse riding, shooting, hearding goats. Being proper cowgirls!!!
