Kroombit was so fun! After a very long bus journey that took us about 10 hours to get there we had lots and lots of fun. Its a compulsary overnight stop that Oz Experience organise for you but its really good as it gives you an insight into another part of Australia. A cattle Ranch!
When we arrived we checked in, met the main man (cant remember his name!), went to our rooms that are converted stables as the doors split in half and you feel like a horse, and then we all had a drink and a chat. They laid on a really good dinner of soup and roast dinner which was lovely and then after dinner the main man gave us a talk about his farm and the history of it. Vicky and I decided to sit underneath a light and throughout the whole thing moths, bugs and beetles were falling from the sky. It was horrible. Vicky ended up moving her seat and i was constantly flicking them off. Not the best seats in the house. After that we got to crack a whip. It was so much fun. You are holding a whip and you have to raise your arm up next to you above your head and bring your arm down really fast and bend the elbow to get the whipping sound. Apparently I had a natural touch and Vicky did really well aswell. Watch out boys as we are whip trained now so annoy us and you will know about it!!! Then there was a chance to ride a mechanical bull if you really wanted to. Vicky and I didnt but a few people did. It looked extremaly uncomfortable and the boys had to be situated before they could start (down below if you know what i mean)!! their faces afterwards.. a picture! We had a relatively early night as we have to be up at 6 for another jam packed day!
A 6:00am wake up call from a local cowboy courtesy of his shotgun woke us all up and we all check out before 7, had a bit of breakfast and made our way to the farm for some activities. There was clay pigeon shooting, goat catching in a ring and then goat mustering on horseback. Vicky and I chose the horseriding. My horse was called Bundy and Vickys was called Molly. The ride lasted about 2 hours and we did some goat herding... following them up a hill and down again to direct them through a gate. It was good fun but afterwards my bum hurt and then for 2 days my back.. thats because I sat up too straight and crippled myself! It made me want to get back on a horse properly and gave Vicky some confidence.
We got back on the bus at about 10:30 am and made our way to Harvey Bay where we would be starting our Fraser Island self drive 4x4 tour..woop woop!!
