After crossing the border at Huay Xai (thailand/Lao) we entered Laos.
The following couple of days we took a boat trip along the Mekong river.
On route we stopped at a small hillside village where we met local families and saw how they get by happily on basic amenties ie. no electricity, basic wooden huts for houses and fish for food caught from the Mekong River.
We stopped over in another village called Pakbeng where our hotel only had 2 hours a day electricity and went for tea with our group where we discoverd Lao Lao ( a local rice whisky).
On day 2 of the Mekong river the local family whose boat we were travelling on cooked us a huge meal of local Lao food which was delicious, this along with the scenery made it a perfect day.
Just before finishing our boat trip we visited Pak ou Caves, which was full of small Buddha images (and bats) and has been used as a place of worship for monks for centuries. Opposite was a huge limestone mountain too, very beautiful
