Borneo 2
Last weekend we went to the tip of Borneo, the local gong factory and had a beach BBQ. The tip of Borneo was very pretty and we climbed down onto the rocks. We had clear blue skies for a bit before the rain came in and we made a run for the buses!
The next day we drove to a local beach for our BBQ. The food was frankfurters and bad quality chicken burgers so not what we had been looking forward to (we had forgotten that they don't eat pork) but still a fun day.
On Tuesday morning I went to the village kindergarten with 3 of the others. There were about 20 children between the ages of 3 and 5. Some of the girls were very shy but most of the boys were happy to jump all over us. We went through the alphabet with them, sang a few English songs and played musical statues, sleeping lions and duck duck goose. It was a really good morning and we all enjoyed it and took lots of pictures.
On Wednesday afternoon we got a minibus back to Kota Kinabalu and are staying here until Monday morning. The first thing we did was go for a McDonalds and after a couple of weeks of rice and noodles we were all very excited. Thursday I went on a fun dive with 3 of the other girls. We dived in the morning, had lunch on an island off the coast and dived again in the afternoon. There were lots of fish and colourful coral but I'm hoping to do some better dives at other points over the next few months.
Tonight all 28 of us are going for an Italian meal and then for a few drinks which I'm looking forward to. We then plan to spend both Saturday and Sunday on one of the islands relaxing on the beach. They are only a short, cheap ferry ride from here so it will be nice before going back to camp on Monday.
