I arrived at Kaki's apartment in Tokyo yesterday afternoon after an adventurous trip from Narita International Airport. I actually had to transit in Korea, so I got a glimpse of Seoul (at least the Incheon International Airport) and it looks amazing! Ohare has some good competition!
After landing at Narita, I exchanged some money to buy tickets for the Narita Express to Tokyo Station. Of course, one of the two big suitcases I have with me, lost a wheel while it was being shuffled around so I had to drag this 50 lb. one-wheeled suitcase along with my other big suitcase, my stuffed backpack, and my computer purse. That's like 120 lbs. right there... Extremely difficult and extremely exhausting, especially when I wasn't sure of where I was going half the time.
I managed to make it to the train with just 3 minutes to spare! The weather has been really nice these past two days here so I was sweating in my winter snow gear. I reached Tokyo Station, which is HUGE, really really HUGE and found my way to the Shin-Maru building where Kaki works. Kaki is an amazing host, as she always finds time to take care of me even with her ridiculously busy schedule as a lawyer at a big law-firm here. She brought me to her apartment and got me settled and went back to work.
We ordered a pizza when she came back that cost about $30! AH! I'm going to do a lot of window shopping here and will still remain broke by the end of this trip! I'm going to check out the mall nearby and the rest of the neighborhood of Roppongi (where everything and everybody is super posh), but I won't take any trains today or stray too far because I am phoneless and my Japanese is terrible!
