Venice. What can I say that hasn't been said before. We arrived while the America's cup was on - not such a good idea as it was packed with tourists- in fact there were 300 people from London and New York for a 3 day wedding extravaganza ( I think they were a little well off). Needless to say we didn't let them bother us at all. We carried on regardless!
Oh such a beautiful city. We wandered the streets, caught ferries everywhere - mainly cos Geoff likes boats. The area we stayed in had a little fiesta on for the 3 nights we were there ( just when we thought we might have a quiet night's sleep) but the second night was fabulous jazz. Our own concert!
We loved it all, the crazy boat drivers, the narrow streets, the crumbling buildings, the well known images, the gondoliers in their striped shirts, the Murana glass and the local green grocer who assisted me despite my shocking Italian.
We had lovely weather and even an earthquake - which woke us up but no damage for us or our apartment. In fact I nearly thought it was just a dream til I heard someone mention it in a cafe.
We left for the Cinque Terre on Monday. When it was pouring with rain - a good day to travel on the train.
