Mountains. That has been the theme of the past few days. On our last day in Morocco we decided to do a one day tour to the Middle Atlas mountains and beyond in order to see a Berber village and a Kasbah. It was a long but interesting day. We drove up through the mountains where the vegetation was quite lush ( by comparison) and the surroundings were magnificent. The higher we climbed though the more barren it became - it was evident that it snows heavily there in winter. The highest we went was around 2,200 m. Then we were in desert again. This is where we saw the Berber village Ait Ben Haddou . Aged 1000 yrs old!!!!!!!! Unesco pay for its continued upkeep. It was extremely hot there - around 48C apparently it gets to 54 C in summer.
Then we went on to see a Kasbah in Ouzazate, which is a fortress. It was a rabbit warren of rooms. The same building materials were used as the village - basically mud bricks.
Wednesday we flew out to Milan. We were ready for a change of air.
The view of the Alps from the airport was magnificent.
Instead of spending the day in another city we chose to go to Lake Como for the day.
That proved to be an excellent idea as we have just spent a lovely day looking around Como, it is so clean here!!!!!
We went on a ferry trip then a funicular and walked to the highest point - up a mountain!
The day was spectacular, and we finished it off with pizza by the lake.
Venice tomorrow for 3 days. Can't wait!

Dave Great to be able to follow along on the journey. Morocco looks great, you must have loved the dyed fabrics Sally. Did Geoff manage to do a cooking class?
Meg What a lovely varied trip you are having! It is so hard for us to imagine a place that old when every structure in Australia is only about 200 yrs old. xx
