Day 11 - Jason's birthday!! Young gun only turning 24 - oh how I wish I was 24 again!!
Mel headed off very early with everyone with the intent of getting to the top of the volcano concepcion. Meanwhile I slept in a bit, had some breakfast and just hung out with my home stay family until 10.
My personal tour guide picked me up and my first stop was the hot spring which wasn't a hot spring thankfully as it was pretty warm, it was about 21 degrees which was perfect. It was soooo much better than I had expected and I honestly could have stayed there all day. I relaxed and read my book in between being in and out of the water - it was perfect. I spent 2 hours at the spring and then my next stop was the cleanest part of the lake which they call the beach. I had some lunch and then just walked all the way along the beach and relaxed again.
After that I was back on the road and heading back to our accommodation.
When I got back I headed to the communal area and was told the guys didn't get to the top due to high winds and so they had gone to see the sunset on a different part of the island. So myself and Fernado watched the sunset and started the party early with a few rum and cokes while we waited for them to get back.
Once they all got back the host families had cooked us dinner and put on a traditional dance performance which was good. They got us all up dancing with them which was good fun.
Being that is was Jason's birthday Fernado had bought a big piñata for him. So we blind folded him and toyrd with him a fair bit - moving the piñata up and down and behind him etc - lots of fun. Didn't have Meg here to just punch it up!! After teasing Jason we decided we should let the local kids have a go, so we got them all involved and eventually it cracked open and the kids were running everywhere picking up lollies and screaming with laughter - it was great to see.
After the locals left we all got stuck into the rum and coke and had a great night drinking and getting to know each other even more, however once that rum ran out it was time to stumble back home.
Mel and I however came across a minor problem - we were locked out. So in a little bit of a panic we went back to where Jason and Gerome where staying to see if they could help us however being that is was dark we had to climb over a fence which had barbed wire on it, and you know when your drunk you think you can do anything, so we climbed the fence. However in the process of climbing the fence and giggling at the same time, Mel managed to put two big long scratches in her leg. Still in a panic and unable to get the boys we then rang Fernado and asked him what we should do - his response - knock harder. Righto ... so again in a laughing fit we went back and 'knocked harder' and eventually the owner answered the door. At this point we felt so terrible and it was a bit like we were young teenagers again coming home after sneaking out. Still giggling and in hysterics we then realized Mel was bleeding a lot from those scratches so we were desperately trying to clean up the blood with wet ones whilst not making any noise.
Any ways we eventually calmed down and went to bed. Of course the next morning though we still felt terrible and were very seedy!!

Lisa Barbed wire! Hope that among all the travel vaccinations you guys are up to date with your tetanus!
Jess Lol, sounds like a good night. Chicks dig scars Mel- and if not it's a great story. Lols -climbs a barbed wire fence while overseas. I think...I would never do that even if I was drunk.
salcentralamerica Both up to date with tetanus however apparently drinking rum and coke at 50% alcohol level and with Mel pouring equals climbing barbed wire fences lol
