Day 13 - Big day planned and we were all going together this time.
First activity on the list was an island tour. Lake Nicaragua has lots of little islands which people own and have built property on them. It was pretty cool and very luxury for Nicaragua. Where else in the world can you buy an island for around 500,000 and put a house on it!!
Whilst out on the water we went to a particular island that is purely for a bunch of monkeys and we all got to feed them which was 'super' cool (super is our heavily used word at the moment - everything is super).
After the island tour the next thing on the itinerary was a visit to the Masaya volcano which is an active volcano. This was my first time seeing and active volcano at the top so it was pretty cool. Hot smelly sulfur poring out of the top and an incredible feeling of knowing it could erupt at any time! Scary thing is lots of volcanos in Central America have erupted this year.
After the volcano it was time to head out to a crater which is now a big lagoon where you can swim. It's was a bit of a drive so we had some fun singing in the bus to some classics. Time of your life, body guard, true colors etc, our guide was loving it.
Got to the lagoon and it was amazing - we felt like we were at a luxury resort. Ordered some lunch and had a very relaxing afternoon swimming and being silly with noodles. It's amazing that it's so beautiful and so untouched. If that was Australia we would have high rise apartment blocks and resorts all the way around it - it would be very commercialized and touristy.
It got to the end of the day and it was time to head back. So back on the karaoke bus we went. Ended the day with a very low key night and pizza.
Good day and probably one of my favorites.
