Grand Canyon Day.
We were woken up during the night with the rv getting blown around. Must have been some very strong winds happening outside.
We had an early start and headed over to the office where they were putting on some breaky for everyone waffles, cereal and boiled eggs. A good meal considering it was included in our stay anyway which is a fair price.
After breakfast we were shuttled to the Grand Canyon Railway station where we watched a 20 minute Wild West show which featured someone from the crowd. It was a lot of fun but it was quite cold. Everyone was huddling in the small grandstand trying to keep warm. We picked a spot amongst the people so we weren't catching the strong gusty winds. After the show we piled on the train and met our cart attendant. Her name was Morgan. She was a lady of Indian background and lived for the land and knew a lot about our trip to the canyon explaining so much to us about Arizona and her appreciation for the grand canyon.
Along the way we saw lots of old buildings from when the original railway was there and a Santas holiday home. We were entertained by some musicians who came along singing songs and keeping people entertained. I myself was happy to look out the window prowling for some Elk, squirrels and rabbits and seeing the big pine forest that we passed along the way of our 2 hour trip.
Once we had arrived we pretty much ran over to see the Canyon it was awesome! It stretched for as far as our eyes could see and to depths that were scary to think about tumbling down. We walked from the train station to the geology museum in the freezing cold with 50 mile per hour winds. Web could have worn a better jacket. I don't think he knew what he was in for. After we checked out the geology room there was a storm coming over. We pretty much ran back to the lodge where there was a nice warm fireplace and had our chicken sandwiches. Just after we sat dow it started to snow! Our hope of there being snow had come true. Although it may have only been for 10 seconds and at 50mph but it was a first for us Yay!
On our way home we saw some antelope running but they were too far away to take a photo. There was a little more snow on our trip back and we Encountered a few train robbers who jumped on board and harassed us for money it was all apart of the show and I guess they are just chasing there tips like everyone else to get by.
Once we got back we headed for dinner at the red raven and it was a great meal for really good price gotta be happy with that!
The team at the Railside RV park where we stayed were so very helpful to us and made our time in Williams and Route 66 delightful.
