Full blog to follow but just to let you know that we are west of Alexandria and heading to the Libya border. What one sees on TV and the reality is worlds apart. People in the street are living life as if nothing is happening. So all good and did not encounter one strange situation.
And another update that we made it to a town called Soloum, some 10km from the Libyan border. Tomorrow morning we will be in Libya where all is quiet and we will be seeing one of Africa's best preserved Roman city Leptis Magna, the markets of Tripoli, tea with Gaddafi (kidding), the biggest man-made rivers in the world and more... I am not sure at all about internet in Libya as information is rather limited, but we are traveling with a guide taking us through the country so we are in safe hands. From all the reports we got from other travellers, Libya is like Sudan - completely misunderstood by the world as the people are the friendliest on earth.
We are therefore not sure when we can send a blog again, but as soon as we can, it will come...

Anet Rikus en Arina, jul sal hierdie inskrywing moet regstel .... anders mis jul die geskiedkundige datum van 11 Februarie 2011 heeltemal! Toemaar, dit het my ook 3 dae geneem om dit agter te kom!
Gert & Helga Hi Arina and Rikus, we are glad you did get through Egypt without problems. Have been thinking of you a lot and hoping everything will be fine. Now you are nearly at your destination and we are looking forward to have you back here safely. Regards and still some more happy travelling from Helga and Gert
Gina Hi Rikus Been so busy have not had time to read all the updates ... although we get running commentary from Lucille. Good to hear that you made it out of Egypt in one piece ... unfortunately, bad news sells and so that is what we get to see in the press ! Looking forward to the next update !! Stay safe and enjoy the last leg of your travels.
Adrie To all followers of this blog: Had a call from Rikus via sat phone tonight (15/02/11). All is well with Arina and him. There is no Internet connection in Libya available to date. They are now in Leptis Magna west of Tripoli. Plan is to get into Tripoli tomorrow. From there move on to Tunisia. Tunisia is supposed to have Internet connection. Either Monday or Thursday next week on ferry to Italy. So the adventure is nearing its end. Keep your eyes peeled for the last chapters.
