Further back towards town but still in the highlands we turned off into El Gato farm. There are numerous farms where the giant tortoises can come and go at their leisure - all fences on the farms must start at a hight they can all fit under. There were loads of tortoise all over the green farm munching away at greenery or having a mud bath in the dirty lagoon (apparently this is the key to living over 100 years). The tortoise we did see were all male, the females live in the low lands at this time of year and make the massive trek up to the highlands for breeding season.
