Well they say travelling is a voyage of discovery and I discovered last night that hostel accomadation is not for me (thanks Richard!) A nice chap from lincolnshire and a women from Denmark aside, the third roomie was a stereotypical Ozzie who worked locally and had come to the Outback Pioneer resort with the sole intention to drink! Though his threat to bring a women back didn't happen, I barely got any sleep in the top bunk with a prison style mattress, and woke for my 4am tour with a banging headache. A three hour drive to the Kings Canyon gave way to a fairly punishing 6km walk in desert like conditions but thankfully I was well stocked with water. Met Charlie the lovely cockatoo on my way back and my headache has gave way to a cough so that's a marginal improvement I think lol. At least I should sleep better having upgraded to a single room, ready for my 5:30am trek to see Ayres Rock tomorrow morning at sunrise! Will meet some people later for a beer before bedtime. The lovely thing is not once have I felt lonely. A surprising amount of single travellers and people just seem to chat to me you know? ;-)

Andre You slag lol
Roger You, in a hostel? Ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaa!!! It would be like finding a delicate butterfly sitting on a dog-turd...
Trixie Latrine During your travels in your 20s, you were cosseted. So, I'm not surprised to hear that you now find hostels a bit beneath you. Travelling alone is not difficult. You, like me, are happy to strike up conversation with anyone and everyone.
Roger The only thing beneath Ryan was whoever was in the bottom bunk - boom! boom! I'll get me coat...
Roger Here, this might come in handy: http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html Try it at your next stop in Queensland, as in a greeting: G'day, you big banana bender/cane toad!
