I made it to Morroco. It never really hit me that I was heading across the pond until I emerged from the bowels of the Marrakech baggage claim and saw Patrick with a big ol' grin on his face. All of a sudden I got butterflies and started sweating. I was actually in Africa. I had biked 900 miles on my own, relying on a road map and zero bicycle acumen. I had been so concerned the past two weeks about where I was going to sleep and what I was going to eat every night that I couldn't think about the next step in the journey until it actually happened. And when I stepped out from the customs declaration checkpoint into the unseasonably cool Moroccan air, it all came rushing in at once.
Then, four hours later, Alex's train showed up. I got that overwhelming, "I-can't-believe-this" feeling. Three college teammates from Detroit coming together in Morocco, ready to conquer Europe on two wheels. And I'm sure I'm going to feel the same way in 8 days when we meet Brian in Spain.
We're departing tomorrow morning at 7:00.
