Sanur may have earned its nickname 'Snore' because of its low key, relaxed feel rather than the party scene in Kuta but we loved it! In Australia's reality show, 'What Really Happens in Bali', the stories about Kuta's Poppies Lane are crazy. The antics of schoolies (under 18 yrs old) and Aussies seeking thrills like cliff jumping abound. Motor accidents from drunkenness and drugs are also common. We wanted none of that so we picked Sanur, a place described for families and middle aged tourists. Perfect!
We stayed in a little quaint cottage, steps from a refreshing pool. Several cozy raised sitting areas and paved paths snaked through the quiet complex. It was our first exposure to the Hindu gods and rituals that were clearly evident everywhere we went!
The boardwalk wound through many luxury resorts so guests can access the beach and non-guests can stop in their restaurants. John lost the battle with one owner over the 'advertised' $2 juice and ended up paying $4.50 per drink. OUCH!
The boardwalk was quiet when we first got there. By about 11.30am when we left, stalls were starting to open up. Two local ladies strolled along the boardwalk with us, engaging us in conversations. They soon did their sales pitch of asking us to look at their stall with "no pressure to buy." LOL. We went. They were so annoyed when we didn't want to pay their prices.
