The first full day involved a VERY quick shower. This is something I'm hoping I'd get use to or 'will' get use to as the ambassador would say. After all, this was in a hostel. I doubt host homes would be any different.

Speaking of 'will' it was strongly used during our meeting with him based on the culture and perspective of the deaf in the Philippines. He had us at the edge of our seats when he stated we were not only here to represent ourselves for the community but for the UK.

I was thinking "Pressure." But what really had me in awe was how far behind the Filipinos were living in general. Not only the Deaf community face inequality everyday but hearing Filipinos themselves do not have what western European citizens have in their own country. I.e School times are like working shifts all due to there not being enough resources and funding to be taught from 9 to 3.

This shows how under-developed the country is and more. 20% flippinos live below the poverty line. 300,000 filipinos live in the UK in contrast to 17,000 British people living in the Philippines. This shows how much the Filipino community depend on the British economy. The attitude and beliefs from the government is simply what us Brits faced 50 years ago. Deaf Filipinos today are perceived as 'mentally retarded' and are 'unable to learn.' Ignorance itself means a 'lack of knowledge and information.' So with information that we have come to know could change the way Deaf Filipino are perceived.

The motto used is "Its not you can, its you will." So maybe the word could shouldn't exist from here on out.

During our wait before flying over to Cebu, we were given 120 pesos each to spend on lunch which is under 2 pounds. So after buying snacks rather than food, we had 150 pesos left. I thought "let's get a bottle of Pringles for us all." No, its 210 pesos. Ha. We couldnt even afford a bottle of pringles. It goes to show how little we think of the value in food than the cost itself. No more Starbucks.
