A Grand Tour of Greece With a Rubber Rat
Po Po Po, Hiya all, although i've moved on a long way whislt typing this i'd better make entries from each place, internet cover has either been a bit thin or we've been in a bot of a rush so all a bit behind. So i'll drift back to paleochora on Crete....We needed a bit of a chill so where better! Sorry we've moved on Jan & Thom, but Crete is as beautiful as ever (Thavmassio!) Wonky ferry times dictated our stay so here Fri - Tues (11th) It was great to meet up with old friends and were here for the opening of 'The third Eye' - our favourite vegetarian restaurant. Was packed with regulars of all persuasions. Lots of aging hippies too.
We all did a bit of mountain biking (I had to get a 'backie' as my legs are too short for this, but a great view up here!) went out to see our friend Val whos house is guarded by Zeus and Zorba, two huge Skilossi (Dogs) who bark themselves hoarse when we roll up. (A bit tougher than you Wilma! ) Next day we took the coast ferry along to Sougia, a brilliant little place, really quiet as its a pain to reach by road, but a gem non the less. Had a swin here (well M did, us rats don't get wet if we can help it) a bit chilly at that 'critical moment', you know,.. just at the bottom of the shorts...brrrr! but not so bad. Warmer than Wells I think! Still incredibly hot down here, we're further south than Tunisia now. We left paleochora on Tues 11th to get up to Kastelli-Kissimos for the frerry back to the Pelopponese. Stayed at the amazing Bekakis family house, great fun, lovely old Greek folk, lots of chats. Outside the room was a pond with a good 100 bull frogs who sang sweetly to us all night (Ba*****s!) Ok up early for the ferry back, sea a little rough which was testing for the ex-cross channel ferry we use, poor old thing wasn't quite up to it, but made it in the end.
