A Grand Tour of Greece With a Rubber Rat
Hi all, more ramblings from el Rodente.....So, we docked in githio and were able to get a bust straight away to areopolis, The old capital of this prefecture, but still a small place. we rolled up at about 6ish and were looking for a place recommended to us as being a bit quirky. Tsimova rooms in a mani tower under a church (of course with associated bells!) this was a mad place, outside the door was a field gun, and I mean a big one! The Manians are famed for multi-generation feuds, that why they live in these towers so they could shoot at each other at will. (Although the Mani women just went about their daily lived whilst husbands and sons were cheerfully killing each other) In our room was a picture of the family son (He is Elvis..really) the Mona Lisa, a nodding dog, a huge pot Alsatian religious icons, a pot Jesus and a few guns on the wall. Ate at the super 'Barba Petros' taverna, a lovely trad greek polace, no menu, just go into the kitchen & see whats on, buckets of home made wine & vanilla cake. We had to al, be up early the next day for the 7 am bus. Now our room is off a quaint courtyard & we have to go into the family house ba a back door to get out to the street via their front door. This is where the plan started to unravel...first we needed our room key to get to door open (Pitch dark in here) so back goes M to get it whilst L is fiddling with the bolts, a bit of a comedy sketch here, both sniggering & faffing with bolts, whispering and trying to get out in time for our bus .. then theres a rustling in the corner and an old boy appears in his enormous Greek underpants (underpantos Magalos?) to help us get out. We said a polite Kalimera and bundled out into a fantastic Masnian dawn with the sun creeping over the mountain. This is when we find that the bus is actually at 9am not 7......
Ok, seeya soon
