Life in Kandersteg continous and I had some very interesting days.
On Friday I was on duty, so that means Lisa, Wellem, Nathan (SE) and I are available for the guests until 22:30, after the reception is closed. We cleaned the Staffroom and at TFTD I told about my experience with Jean-Claude in Compiègne, France and how he inspired me to never give up and you can do whatever you dream of, even if you are 'old'. A little while later the normal work started and we cleaned the toiletblocks. During Lunch we got some more duty training from Lisa and in the afternoon was I 'in charge', because the LTS had a meeting. Pretty chaotic, because there were a lot of things happening at the same time, but in the end we finished everything. After dinner it was 'dutytime' and we got an internal phone. After that there wasn't a lot of time to sit down, but actually I liked it. I gave out some pioneering poles and together with Wellem I tried to put a little bird back in its nest, but I think it didn't survive for a long time. We also had a kitchenparty with the four of us, because it was quiet and most people were at the international campfire. And almost at the end there was a late check-in for campsite, which I did. Jeej! When Nathan and Wellem were back from the dutywalk, I went to bed. However, that didn't last long. Adri woke me up after a little while and we had to go to the campsite. I don't want to talk a lot about it, because I think it's not suitable for the world wide web.
I woke up very tired the next day, because of the problem of last night I didn't catch a lot of sleep and the alarm of Moemi went of early, because she had an AM shift in catering. After we cleaned the OTB with the powerwasher, Lisa asked me what happened last night and after I explained it, she send me back to my bed, where I slept for about four ours. That felt so much better and in the afternoon I felt more productive. I did some small random tasks and a check-in in Dutch. That was pretty difficult after speaking English for a long time! In the evening it was Staff Night Out and we had a chocolatefondue with fruit. In the meanwhile it was also a sort of speeddate and we shifted a chair to the right every minute and we answered interesting questions to each other. Very funny! After that we also went to the helper barracks for some drinks, followed by a visit to the horse jump festival. We had a good time!
The morning of Sunday started luckily more normal than the last few days with the weekly meeting at TFTD and Wellem is this week the Smile of the Week. After that we went on with the handwash, because we don't use machinery on Sundays for the rest of the inhabitants of the village. During lunch I found more sleep and in the afternoon I was in the office. It wasn't very busy, but fine for me. And then it was time for the BBQ! I was at the check-in point and told people about the Foodkind organisation and where the guests had to go for their food. It was fun!
On Monday my rota said 'special', so that meant I had to take the bus at 7:55 to the train station, where we were going to take all the stuff down from the horse jump festival. When we were packing away the wooden floor plates I missed one of the screws and got a wound on my knee. Luckily we had some first aid stuff and got it around my knee. We lunched at the swimming pool in the village and in the afternoon we packed away the horse jump obstacles with a big big tractor and we had a very long break. I really liked it to do something else this day, instead of cleaning again. We were back pretty early, so I also helped a bit at catering and chilled in the evening.
In the morning of Tuesday I did some hand cleaning at the tower with Felipe, which went pretty fast, so we also checked the Kanderlodge showers and Rovergelände toiletblock. And I also brought all the dry clothes from the drying room to the reception to put them in the system at lost and found. That took a long time! During lunch Naomi replaced the bandage on my knee, for one that would stick on better and no dirt could come in. It looks like it's going to heel good. After lunch I was in the office again, what was pretty boring, because there were almost no things to do. Luckily I was roted at the Kander Challenge in the evening and I was the one to explain the activity to Turn the Magic Carpet, what was a lot of fun to watch the struggles of the participants.
In the morning of Wednesday I had a I-miss-Daan-day. I felt sad and nothing could really cheer me up. However, we still had to clean. That didn't went as fast as possible, because there was a problem with the electricity, again. During lunch I called an our with Daan and after that I found some new energy. In the afternoon I tidied outside the Werkhof with Josh, got some recycling from Doris, did a checkout talk and learned to drive Chloe. That was easier as driving on Leena, because Chloe is a smaller tractor, mostly for transporting the rubbishbin from the Chalet Recycle Centre. After dinner I didn't do a lot. I finished the Suisse Flag and started the Dutch one. And we did a mini kitchenparty, because someone left the fridge open last night and now it's locked, so we can only eat cereals :(.
And on Thursday I was off. Jeej! I tried to sleep in, but I only succeeded until 8 AM. So I read a bit, had breakfast and packed some lunch. When Kristy was also awake, we walked to the village and took the bus from there to Blausee. That is a really beautiful, natural environment with a very clear, blue lake and nice hikingpaths. And we ate icecream! Whooohooo! I really liked the visit and Kristy and I had very good conversations. When we wanted to go back we just missed the bus, but luckily Mads drove past us with a KISC car and he gave us a lift. So nice!
