Hi,
Vietnam is so amazing! I thought Saigon was an incredible city so busy all the time. The over night trains to Nha Trang and now to Hoi An have been a lot of fun. We've had 1st class bunks, which are ok but so much better than the wooden park benchs that most the locals use and sleep on the floor.
Our guide Dsung is pretty cool and has organised loads of rice wine for the trips-as I may I said before beer is actually cheaper than coke most the time- and yesterday I discovered Fresh Beer! Its made eachday by the resturants and bars about 4000d- 1/4 odf a dollar for a glass. He also good at arranging the local trips to experience real life-not that fake preston stuff!
Nha trang was one of my favorite places, beach was amazing the hills and mountains around make a great setting and its surrounded by islands that look like they're from Jurassic Park. We went snorkrlling and motor bike riding upto the budist pagodas, and mud baths. All heaps of fun- My brand new camera has decided to cease to be, so until further notice its Jo's tourist stuff you'll be getting.
There's an odd little saying here " same same but different", you get it on t-shirts and most locals say it to you when describing stuff-anyway we found a resturant of the same name and ate there-it was different.
I've also eaten freshly caught sea snails on the snorkeling quest. We then moved up the coast to Ho An which seems a lot older town, and is a lot quieter than most places. The beach is ok and Jo and I have done a bit of cycling around.
The whole group did a long cycle today and then caught a boat to a river island where we had a bbq. Vietnamese know how to cook beef and chicken- but the huge prawns really stroke my good places. The bbq resturant was a real treat where only the locals go and you cook your own food on little bbqs on the table.
Got some cool traveling stuff from the market, if I was starting this trip again I would get it all here even a backpack-though saying that SE Asia isnt as cheap as evryone says-but still about half the price of the UK.
Thanks for the messages- Dave and Annie, I'm travelling with JO, let me hear you say it- Jo! hope Mark and Lou, and Joan all enjoyed their hols.
later!
