Before leaving queenstown, we went to the ice bar, the temperature was -8.5 and we was given coats and gloves to put on. We drank cocktails from glasses made from ice & everything was made of ice. We had booked a trip to Milford Sound which is said to be the most beautiful place in NZ and they are'nt wrong. We went on a hour boat trip& saw breathtaking scenary. We was also luckily enough to see a pod of bottled nosed dolphins & seals chilling out on the rocks. We also headed to Akaroa which is a small seaside town. We booked to do a trip the next day which was swimming with Hector dolphins which are the worlds smallest and rarest dolphin. In the morning we headed down to the pier, the group was just us two and another couple. The other couple wore wet suits and me and Jay went for the dry suit option which is not an attractive outfit to wear and they only come in one size! We wore lots of warm layers underneath and headed out on the boat. We soon saw the dolphins but we had to work out if the dolphins were friendly and wanted to hang out with us. It did take a little while until we found a pod of dolphins that were in a playful mood. We got in the sea and i thought i felt my arm getting wet but i continued to watch the dolphins. We was using our snorkels to blow bubbles and make noises in the water. They swam amongst us and was coming up to breathe close to us. Jay was the lucky one, one particular dolphin liked him and was swimming circles around him. The dolphins soon got bored and swam off and we had run over time so we headed back on the pier. When i took of the dry suit, i soon learned that my suit wasn't so dry after all. My arm was soaking and so was my thigh but it was a great trip and we would definately do it again if we got the chance.
After the trip we headed to Christchurch. As we had be warned by other travelers, there not alot open around the centre and the destruction is massive. Theres still alot of shakes happening and we found it slightly scary to experience them.
NZ has been cold but not cold enough to snow, the slopes had been closed the whole time and we didn't get to do the skiing that we had planed. The ski slopes actually opened the day before we was leaving! We both agree that so far, NZ is the most beautiful place we've visited, the scenery is spectacular.
