So, final day in Stellenbosch today, so doing all the washing/packing stuff required for a travel day tomorrow!
Had a great weekend, really very lazy as it was very hot, over 30 degrees both days.
Saturday we lounged around for a bit, then in the afternoon we went into Stellenbosch to a carnival type thing at the University stadium opposite BAT offices, where there were some funfair bits, which the kids had a great time on!
We stopped off at La Pineta on the way back, which is this lovely restaurant just off the road to Somerset West, where the location is lovely, the restaurant is lovely, it has a play area for the kids and the food is fab. Unfortunately the service absolutely sucks - I mean seriously bad, as in really slow, not terribly helpful and you have to continually ask for things.
As we were all half asleep, we went back to the house and Martin put the rugby on and I think I was probably the only person in the house who didn't nap that afternoon/early evening. Unfortunately, Rod & his wife couldn't make it, as they live in Cape Town and it is the Cape Town Argus this weekend (this is a road cycle race and they start shutting roads earlyish on Saturday evening for an early sunday start, so they didn't think they would be able to make it back home. Apparently the race takes all day as it's not a professional race and any amateur can compete, which is 30+ degrees sounds like suicide to me!) which is a real shame, it would have been lovely to catch up with him and see how well he's doing!!
Sunday was again a very lazy day as, if anything, it was hotter than Saturday, due to the lack of a breeze. Martin was making a game fillet for dinner, so Maritha whipped up her usual fab veg accompaniments. The down side was the house was absolutely roasting!! So I spent most of the afternoon in my room downstairs, which was considerably cooler. The kids, very sensibly, played in the pool!!
Dinner was fab, though it carried on the ongoing argument about rare meat vs. well done. I can't help it, I prefer well done, if it's still bleeding, it's not cooked enough!! Anyway, I thought we were eating some kind of antelope, but I discovered afterward it was actually Wildebeest. I think they were hoping to shock me a bit, but honestly, I though it tasted great, not as strong as venison, but definitely gamier than beef.
So, today is spent organising myself back into travel mode, ready for flying to Singapore tomorrow. Have to say I'm not looking forward to 13.5 hours on a plane, so I think I will be packing a sleeping tablet. Been checking the weather in Singapore/Bali/Bangkok/Hong Kong and it's not looking very good - well for me anyway. All of them are predicting 30+ degrees in temp and thunderstorms, except Hong Kong, which is looking a lot more bearable. I'm thinking I didn't pick the best time to go. Ah well, I've got all my tours booked so, I think I'll be too busy to worry about the weather too much!!
